Madeira is an archipelago in Portuguese territory, located in the Atlantic Ocean, 960 km from Lisbon and 500 km from the African coast.
Its privileged geographical position gives it a mild climate throughout the year, ideal for outdoor activities such as trekking, which attracts countless travelers.
Discovering Madeira Island in a unique experience
Nowadays, traveling is experiencing, knowing and understanding what you see. Based on this idea, we developed the 5+2 program. What it means? In 5 days we will go hiking to explore the natural beauty of the island, its traditions and cultural heritage and in the remaining 2, take the opportunity to wander around freely and buy that souvenir for a loved one and in the other we will take you to discover Funchal beauty, strolling through its streets and iconic places on an exciting city tour.
The first settlers, in honour of the abundant fennel they found on the slopes of the village, gave the place the name of Funchal. The name is formed from the Portuguese word for fennel, "funcho", added with the suffix -"al", to denote "a fennel plantation. Funchal, the capital of the archipelago, then designates "the place where fennel grows".
MNP is a protected area rich in its natural heritage and the beauty of its landscapes and cultural heritage and is entirely open to the public.
To visit it is to discover nature! It is a space for recreation and leisure, preservation of memories, rural traditions, built heritage, agricultural and forest space, from the native forest, Laurissilva, to that of exotic forests. These peculiarities make it attractive, in the regional context, and also in the national and global contexts.

The island of Madeira has got the most extensive and preserved Laurissilva forest in the world, with an area of around 15,000 hectares.
It is a World Natural Heritage Site, classified by UNESCO in 1999 and our mission is aligned with the principles of that organization and consists of:
- dissemination – through hiking programs and knowledge of its species;
- in conservation and preservation - not interfering with existing habitats and minimizing our ecological footprint by not leaving any type of waste in nature.
We are part of those who intend to leave a legacy for future generations to enjoy it in the same way.
The island has a network of canals that irrigate its entire territory, covering a length of around 3.000 km.
Its construction dates back to the 15th century, the date of its settlement. Around 1,500 km are passable, making them a strong tourist resource for the region.
